Breaking bad… habits is much easier than it sounds, as we all know. From January to July I fell into a funk of laziness when it came to physical activity. I basically lounged in bed as soon as work was done. Gone were the evenings walks either outdoors or on the treadmill. A good evening meant sitting on the couch to watch tv or dissociate rather than laying in bed. I did read on occasion but not as much as I’d like.
July I started to get back on track with physical activity. My sister and I finally resumed our evening walks, despite the sometimes poor air quality thanks to the Canadian wildfires or the humid air mixed with sweltering heat.
Now I’m building on the evening walks by starting the Couch to 5K app. I’ve wanted to get into running for twenty years now but it intimidates the heck out of me. However, I’m not getting any younger so no time like the present. It’s hard but I feel so good when I finish a training run. Granted, right now it’s about slowly building up endurance, which means alternating walking with jogging.
On the days I’m not doing a training run, I’m incorporating yoga and next will be strength training. It’s not easy and I have to force myself to make good choices but breaking bad habits isn’t easy, but it is worth it.
